KFF LAUNCHES THE KFF CUP THE Kenya Football Federation (KFF) Cup has been launched.
It will replace the President's Cup tournament that had been used by
the federation to nominate teams to take part in the confederations
cup tournament. "The name KFF Cup is in line with many cup tournaments which are named after the parent football association," said KFF secretary general
Sammy Obingo.
He said once a sponsor is found, the name shall incorporate the
sponsor's name.
The format for the 2008 KFF Cup has been agreed on as follows:-
1. TEAMS: - The tournament shall have a total of 64 teams broken down into:-
a) Kenyan Premier League Clubs - 16
b) Nationwide Clubs - 32
c) KFF Branch Clubs - 16
It then means all KPL and Nationwide clubs (two Zones of 16 clubs each) plus one club from the 16 KFF Branches shall participate.
2. PERIOD
a) 11th/12th/13th April 2008 - First Round of 32 matches
b) 17th May 2008 - 2nd Rounds of 16 matches
c) 19th/20th July 2008 - 3rd Round of 8 matches
d) 16th/17th August 2008 - Quarter Finals
e) 20th September 2008 - Semi Finals
f) 20th October 2008 - FINALS
- A suitable date for a draw shall be found in March 2008
- After every round, a draw shall be determined for home matches
- Only one match shall be played to determine a Winner
3. PARTICIPATION FEE
a) Each club shall pay Kshs. 5,000/= to participate in round one & two
b) A further Kshs. 2,000/= shall be paid by the last 16 teams
c) KFF will be responsible for payment to Match Officials
